What’s Hot on Roku? – Our Top Ten

Choosing what to watch on your TV can be quite a stressful experience. With so much choice out there in terms of hardware and content it’s hard to decide what to get stuck into – especially if you have to agree with your partner too!

Now here at Linsar, as I’m sure you would expect, we love TV and always love sharing our favourite shows and films so you guys can skip over the browsing and just enjoy your TV!

NETFLIX – Once Upon A TimeOnceUponATime_Roku

Guaranteed to always be amongst our fav TV shows, OUAT is based on the theory that there is an alternate universe where every classic fairy tale character (new and old) exists—a world that has a loose connection to our world. If you love your classic fairy tales then you’ll love how this show intertwines all of the different stories!

 

 

NOW TV – Kingsman: The Secret ServiceKingsman_Roku

As described by Rotten Tomatoes – Kingsman: The Secret Service is stylish, subversive, and above all fun! This movie tells the story of a super-secret spy organization and whilst training a new recruit a new threat arises from a twisted tech genius. It is an easy watch guaranteed to make you laugh.

 

 

SKY STORE – The MartianTheMartian_Roku

When astronauts blast off from the planet Mars, they leave behind Mark Watney (Matt Damon), presumed dead after a fierce storm. With only a meager amount of supplies, the stranded visitor must utilize his wits and spirit to find a way to survive on the hostile planet. A truly great film that everyone must see.

Set in present-day Washington, D.C., House of Cards is the story of Frank Underwood, a Democrat from South Carolina’s 5th congressional district and House Majority Whip who, after being passed over for appointment as Secretary of State, initiates an elaborate plan to get himself into a position of greater power, aided by his wife, Claire Underwood. An addictive series which offers a look behind the scenes at the greed and corruption in American politics..

 

 

ALL4 – Deutschland 83Deutschland83_Roku

Set against the real events, culture wars and political realities of Germany in the 1980s, this epic drama series is a stylish coming-of-age story, framed within a suspenseful Cold War thriller. Don’t let the fact it is in German put you off, you soon get used to the subtitles and are dying to know whats happening in the next episode!

 

 

AMAZON PRIME – Orphan BlackOrphanBlack_Roku

Starring Tatiana Maslany as all the main characters, Orphan Black is a Sci-Fi thriller centered around a compelling clone conspiracy. The series focuses on Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of her apparent doppelganger, Elizabeth Childs, after witnessing Childs’ suicide. The series raises issues about the moral and ethical implications of human cloning, and its effect on issues of personal identity.

 

 

NOW TV – Game of ThronesGameOfThrones_Roku

If you aren’t already watching the worldwide phenomenon that is Game of Thrones we really think you should! (And why aren’t you can we ask?!) As part of the Entertainment Pass on NOW TV you can watch the entire box set from beginning to end – as well as the latest episodes shown on Sky Atlantic!

 

 

BBC iPLAYER – CuckooCuckoo_Roku

This modern-era comedy is the perfect fit for the digital age. Available on BBC Three online, as reviewed by The Independent ‘It is hard to describe Cuckoo as anything but wildly offbeat while comfortingly British at the same time’ – a laugh a minute, light-hearted sitcom.

 

 

ITV HUB – MarcellaMarcella_Roku

As Marcella Backland’s marriage disintegrates, her interest is piqued by a case she reads about in the papers and which bears a close resemblance to a crime she never managed to solve ten years ago: the return of a killer who asphyxiates his victims in a particularly cruel and unusual fashion. Dark and twisty, you’ll be hooked!

 

 

AMAZON PRIME – The Imitation GameTheImitationGame_Roku

The Imitation Game portrays the nail-biting race against time by Alan Turing and his brilliant team at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. A moving tribute and worthy biopic of a real hero with an outstanding performance from Benedict Cumberbatch.
